If you buy a direct drive open sim wheel such as the simplicity SW20 OSW that we use then you are soon confronted with the need for both a wheel and a button box with shifters. Sim-Gear.co.uk come to the rescue with there 3D printed Suzuka MK1 Button Box which gives you a total of 8 buttons, two up down switches, two rotary encoders and two high resistance neodymium magnet based shifter paddles.
Having put the button box through its paces over the last few weeks in this video we give our opinions on whats good and bad about the MK1 and if indeed its a good solution for those of you starting out on your direct drive adventure !
GOOD
- Best value button box on the market I know of
- Shifters Feel amazing ( magnetic spring is awesome)
- 16 assignable buttons
- Plug and play
- Comes with everything you need to mount it to wheel and Motor
- Adjustable paddle shifters
- Additional screen support
- Fits OMP Trecento Wheel (good all round wheel for all cars)
BAD
- 3D Printed so does not look as sharp as top end Boxes
- Slight flex when top buttons are pressed hard
- Can be tight with fingers when used with 300mm wheel + screen
- Wont make you more attractive to opposite sex
