Big Fella's First Car Project at 13 -Aussie Garage Interview
47Today, we are interview the Big Fella that is starting his first car project at 13 years old with his father, Byron or as you may know as Down the Shed with Byron.
Now the Big Fella has a 1969 HT Holden Belmont Ute that they are going to up for shows around the area and also us it for Father and Sons adventures when they can.
So the plan according the Big Fella is have the outside of the car look like it just came out of the bush with patina all over the car, but to have the Drive Train and Suspension all new, functioning and reliable. The Big Fella and Byron are starting with the drive train of the vehicle first. They are trying to get the original engine run and see if its able to be used, however, they do have a 173 Holden Engine as a back if this fails. Now Byron is teaching his son the basis of fault finding and allow the Big Fella to understand, plus try things on his own to see if will work. So Byron is the assistant on this project for sure.
So we open the engine bay and there is this massive Turbo next to the Straight 6 banger engine. Big Fella told he got it out of Camry for joke, but this thing is huge. They are not using the turbo but want to have fun along the way. The engine is back by a three speed column shift manual, as the Big Fella says it harder to stole and they have a banjo diff in the rear.
They have a number of rust repairs that need to be done in the engine bay area, but their good friend DJ, from Automotive Karnage has has parts from a HT Panel Van and Wagon that can be used to assist them. In the Interior, they are going to patch the floors to get of all the holes that they have at present and fix all the damage parts to the dash. They are going to add back in the original blue carpet to match the dash and Dan from @visiontrimshop730 will be doing a bench seat for the HT Holden. So it may look like crap, but them will be driving smooth and in comfort.
The Big Fella i s trying to have the Project car finished by the 7th of April 2024 for our YouTube Corner at the Max Pinjarra event 2024 at Sir Ross McLarty Oval in Pinjarra and in conjunction with the Panel Van and Ute State Titles 2024 as well.
He also has to finish his Chopper Bike Build as well prior to getting into the Ute. That he learns to Start and finish each project he takes on. Its great to see Young man with a passion for cars and willingness to learn, as most kids would rather play games and chill in their rooms. So when kids show they are interested like this, definitely let them tinker and teach them.
