Bionic Commando, originally released in Japan as “Hitler no Fukkatsu: Top Secret” (ヒットラーの復活 トップシークレット, The Resurrection of Hitler: Top Secret), is an action-adventure platform game developed and published by Capcom in 1988 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Family Computer (Famicom). The game is loosely based on the 1987 arcade game Bionic Commando. In the Japanese version, the protagonist is Ladd Spencer, a commando equipped with a bionic arm featuring a grappling gun. The game’s story involves rescuing Super Joe and stopping the Albatros project from the Empire, which in the Japanese version is depicted as a neo-Nazi nation. The game’s difficulty was rebalanced and some areas made less challenging for the international release.
