Keep in mind that I have no DS capture card, so please don't complain about the lousy video quality.

About 10 years ago, I completed my first playthrough of the Nintendo DS version of BIONICLE Heroes, and I wrote up a rather comprehensive "review" of the game on BZPower and Brickset that listed every enemy in the game. Much like the console version, the DS version starts with certain enemies that phase out in favor of stronger variants as you progress through the game; since you're free to choose zones in any order you choose, the variety of enemies you encounter in any level largely depends on "early-game", "mid-game", or "late-game" (with a few exceptions, such as one specific Guurahk that apparently always spawns in Twin Waterfalls, even in the late-game where all other Rahkshi have been replaced with Lerahk).

Conspicuously missing from my list of enemies were Pahrak and Kane-Ra, which (despite appearing in the in-game screenshots for Stolen Keep and Familiar Territory, respectively) did not appear at all in-game. While Pahrak and Kane-Ra at least had some evidence suggesting their hypothetical presence in the game, there was no such evidence of Bordakh. And why should there be? Without Pahrak, there was a consistent pattern among common enemies: three Bohrok, three Visorak, three Rahkshi, and three Vahki. A fourth Bohrok or Vahki would break that pattern.

And yet... yesterday, I was in the middle of my second playthrough of BIONICLE Heroes, having completed the first three zones (Sky Temple, Buried Machine, and Volcanic Core) and moving onto the fourth (Glacial Peak), when I made a startling discovery: in-game Pahrak and Bordakh! I have no idea why they did not appear at all during my first playthrough, but here they are, spawning normally as I play through the mid-game.

One of my goals during this second playthrough was to keep an eye out for Kane-Ra. About once every zone, I'd go back and replay Ancient Reservoir, since there's an early area where a Muaka is guaranteed to spawn in the late-game (in the early-game, a Rahkshi spawns instead). Sure enough, a Kane-Ra spawned... and it turns out that Pouks was right: the best way to deal with an aggressive Kane-Ra is by standing perfectly still.

As of this writing, the BIONICLEsector01 article on BIONICLE Heroes DS largely agrees with my old review and does not list Pahrak and Bordakh as enemies. It does list Kane-Ra as an enemy, but erroneously states that it is a stronger variant of Muaka (this cannot be true, since Muaka only appears as a late-game enemy while this footage was taken mid-game). Shortly after uploading this video, I intend to update the BS01 page accordingly, citing this footage as evidence.

Because of the shortage of mid-game BIONICLE Heroes DS videos on YouTube... as far as I can tell, this is the first documented appearance of Pahrak, Bordakh, and Kane-Ra in this game.

Of course, remember what I said about a pattern of three Bohrok, Visorak, etc.? Now that we know there are (at least) four Bohrok and Vahki, that raises the question... is there a fourth Visorak and/or Rahkshi in the game? Like Bordakh, there is no evidence that it exists... but since Bordakh exists, then it is not out of the question.

The music tracks in this video are beta versions of "Warped" (Winter Passage), "Air" (Sky Temple), and "Showdown" (Piraka Battle) by Ian Stocker. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel!
