Black Myth: Wukong has been in the pipeline for three years, and Chinese developer Game Science has been teasing us with glimpses of in-game content for a while. However, we now have the first hands-on game preview and several new details.

The new game demo detailed users through three recent boss fights and sneak peeks of the whole chapter. However, it is essential to note that the demo didn't feature the entire package, and some things were left out, such as a level-up system. The demo showcased the skills and equipment accessible in the mid-game. The revamped combat mechanics now include new postures such as Smash Form, Pillar Form, and Thrust Form. Users will also get a set of transformation abilities, converting into a Fireblade Wolf and a poisonous creature.

Expanding upon the three boss fights mentioned earlier, the first boss is known as Centipede Guai, and we already saw it in a trailer in 2020. The boss locates in a scary cave with various attack methods, such as rolling and heavy punches. It also releases a "poisonous" gas that slowly inflicts your character. You will have to use antidotes to combat this gas. With a general understanding of the mechanics, it is said that defeating this boss isn't a challenging task.

Macaque Chief will be your next big hurdle, located in snow-covered terrain. It is said that the protagonist's movements will impact snow accumulation; hence the battle will be interactive. Lowering the protagonist's health makes battling even more difficult as its aggression, attack range, and patterns increase significantly.

Finally, Tiger Vanguard is the last boss, revealed in a trailer last year. The scenery around the boss fight is quite interesting, located in a blood-filled temple. This boss is said to be the most complex one, with the highest attack speed and aggression. It does hold a challenge for all gamers, and trouncing it won't be an option.

Apart from the mainstream ones, there is also a hidden boss fight with "Poisonous King". It requires conversing with him and breaking a "wine barrel" beside him to start a fight. This boss fight is the most complex, having fast attacks with poisonous inflicts.

Apart from the preview, Black Myth: Wukong now has store pages on Epic Games and Steam as well, and the game will be playable at Gamescom 2023. Enthusiasts who have been waiting for years to try the game out will surely be excited with today's news, and with the inclusion of ray tracing and DLSS 3, this could be a surprise hit when it launches in Summer 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.

Upcoming Soulslike Black Myth: Wukong looks to be all about magical monkey mischief
Store pages for the game are now live ahead of its release next year
Store pages for action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong have just gone live on Steam and the Epic Games Store, along with some more information about what we can expect from the game.

The game was first revealed in 2020, before developer Game Science went mostly quiet. In January, Game First announced a summer 2024 release window for Black Myth: Wukong, and now we've got an official description from the developer.

Black Myth: Wukong is based on Journey to the West, one of the most famous Chinese literary works, which itself is an account of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage across Asia entangled with Chinese mythology.
From the previous trailers for the game, we've seen just how amazing it looks in Unreal Engine 5 and the GIFs included on its Steam page are no different. What really stands out to me is the description of combat for playable character Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King.
Game Science says we'll have an arsenal of "spells, transformations, and magic vessels" to use, all of which are "iconic combat elements in Chinese mythology". What's more, player experimentation is encouraged as you can combine different spells, abilities, and weapons to find your own combat style.

This is all excellent news to my ears as the Monkey King is an extremely powerful and skilled fighter in Journey to the West, and I'm eager to see this translate into gameplay. Hopefully some of Game Science's personality comes through in Black Myth: Wukong, as the developer has become well-known for its monkeying around and humorous mid-development glitches.
