In this video, I'm doing a 1 Credit Challenge of a game that I never heard or even played before, until I watched a video from Retro Hawk doing a gameplay of this game. That game is: Bonze Adventure for the Arcade. This game was developed and published by Taito, it was released in 1988. Bonze Adventure was also ported to the PC Engine in 1990, but only released in Japan. This game can also be found on Taito Legends 2 for the PS2, Xbox and PC, which was released in Europe in 2006 and the North American version came out a year later in 2007, but only the PS2 and PC version. In 2008, the PC Engine version came out on the Wii Virtual Console, but it was only released in Japan. Bonze Adventure is also known as: Jigoku Meguri in Japan and it's a action platform game. The plot goes like this: Emma the King has lost his senses, causing him to lose order of his Underworld domain – enabling evil entities to roam freely. The player controls Bonze Kackremboh, a Buddhist priest who is son of the Divine Dragon. Kackremboh must now go on a journey to find and confront Emma. In order to find Emma, Bonze must survive against hordes of yokai, such as snakes, giant eyeballs, ghosts, kitsune, spiders, entities appearing to be hitodama/will-o'-the-wisp, as well as other evils. The priest's weapons are Buddhist prayer beads, called "mala" beads, which can be powered up until they become almost as large as the priest himself. In times of difficulty, an angel-like presence often provides various power-ups to assist the priest's progress. In an unusual twist, the allotted time appears in the manner of melting candles, rather than a traditional timer. The game consists of several rounds: Dilapidated Backyard Cemetery, The Dead-or-Alive River, Burning Inferno, Bloody Pond, Glacier Trap, Lose-Your-Way-Maze, and finally Emma's Lair. About my run in Bonze Adventure: I think I did pretty good on 1 credit, because the game can be tough, but I enjoyed it so far. Overall, Bonze Adventure is a great action platform game from Taito with a lot of challenge. I highly recommend to give this game a try. I hope you enjoy this 1 Credit Challenge video of Bonze Adventure for the Arcade and thanks for watching!
