438ARE YOU READY FOR A MIRACLE? Anyway, here’s a brief view of the Wunderzeichenbuch.The manuscript contains accounts and descriptions of miraculous signs that have been ob- served throughout history, starting in Old Testament times, through Antiquity, skipping the fake Dark Ages and including the real Middle Ages right up to the middle of the 16th century, including the signs in the heavens seen by St John, as described in the Book of Revelation and assumed by scholarly interpretations to announce the as yet unfulfilled second coming of Christ, the Judgement, Resurrection and the future kingdom of God.
The Book of MIRACLES thus aims to be confusingly comprehensive according to scholars in its scope, in so far as it covers miraculous signs that happened not just from the time of the creation of humankind up to its own day but also those that presumably had never happened yet. There’s no clear demarcation as far as I’m able to find, although the imagery does match the events described to be happening at the proverbial end of the world, according to John’s Book of Revelation a.k.a. the apocalypse.
The Book of Miraculous Signs, with its comparatively lavish illustration, originally comprised 200 pages, each carrying an accomplished and artistic gouache representation of a scene and an accompanying text on one side of the sheet only. A number of the original pages were removed around 1850 when the book was tampered with and released to the masses like everything else on record starting in the middle of the 19th century. So guess what? Of the reported original 200 pages of the manuscript, what remains after tampering, assuming it bears any resemblance in its present form to the original version if it even existed, comprises only 167 pages. Okay. So with a large grain of salt we examine what we are given to see.
