Boom Arm + $20 Ball Head = Cheap Overhead Camera
494I show you how to create a practical overhead camera using a studio boom arm and a cheap $20 ball head.
I hope you find this tutorial useful. At the very least I hope I have given you some ideas as to how you can create the perfect overhead camera for your own setup.
Equipment Necessary
----------------------
A cheap boom arm might be sufficient for you if you are going to use something light like an action camera, mobile phone, or small compact camera.
If you search on Amazon for boom arm you will see hundreds of different boom arms retailing at around $8 to $20.
If you are using something heavier such as a micro four-thirds camera, a camcorder, or a DSLR, I recommend using a higher quality boom arm.
The one I use is the RODE PSA1 Studio Arm.

The Heil PL2T is another good option. I haven't tested it yet, but it has a similar build quality to the Rode PSA1 so it's definitely worth checking out.

The ball head I have been using is from Pergear, but you will find the exact same ball head sold under hundreds of different brands. My advice is to buy the cheapest as they are all identical apart from the logo.
