Boxtron is a brilliant Steam compatibility tool by
Dreamer that runs your DOS games in the native version of DOSBox instead of the Windows version through the Proton compatibility layer.

James attempts to play his beloved TIE Fighter but discovers that the Collector's CD-ROM Edition doesn't work in Proton or Boxtron! Together with the help of Boxtron & DOSBox Staging dev Dreamer, they figure out how to fix this!

Default Linux Steam Compatibility tool directory: ~/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d/

Instructions to make TIE Fighter run using Proton and/or Boxtron: Right-click on the game title in your Steam library. In "General" section there is a text field labelled "Launch Options". Type/paste in this string verbatim: %command% # " - for Collector's edition it will end broken, hanging ", for other editions it will be a comment ignored when starting the game. After this, both CD Collector's edition and Classic edition will work - both with Boxtron and Proton :)
