One of my businesses was broken into at approximately 4am friday morning on the 27th of march 2020. A string of multiple break ins and 10's of thousands of dollars worth of stuff stolen start near the first of march and appears to be still going today. The thieves are driving a stolen ford truck and having stolen multiple ball hitch trailers to do drop offs we suspect. Either way, depending on their intended targets which they appear to scout out a few days in advance, they may bring a trailer or not. In this case they had recently dumped a trailer, proceeded to raid my store, then about an hour and a half later, show up at another store roughly a half hours drive away, to break in and raid it as well the same morning. Currently it's suspected that they've broken into about 30 different places successfully and stolen anything of high value or easy to perhaps sell off. Their habits are strange in terms of the CCTV recordings showing them appear to be taking their time and "shopping" as needed. In addition, they wear gloves, they use the ideal tools, and they appear to cut the hardlines for any security system, including the alarms before they are able to go off. There have been several businesses and buildings where an attempt was made in which they've tried to pry open the doors leaving scratches, dents and even completely screwing over the latches/locks to the point of requiring them to be replaced.

As this is taking place in Rural areas, there appears to be as many farms targeted as there are the rural small towns such as as in this video where so far we know of 2 businesses (mine as well as one other) that were cleaned out of the most critical tools and supplies. As you can see in the video, they take their time, they don't have any quarms about marching in through the front door. Even with an alarm going off, RCMP often take anywhere from 1 to as long as 5 hours or sometimes don't respond until the next day depending on circumstances. In my past false alarms in which police were to meet me at the store, the fastest response i ever got in any of them, was approximately an hour an a half.

Dealing with rural communities, you cannot rely on the RCMP to prevent a murder, robbery, any kind of vandalism, or anything at all. While we are expected to take no action, inaction tends to be as bad a result. Criminals fear nothing due to the fact that chances of anyone putting up a fight are slim, since in the event that anyone saw this occurring and wanted to prevent it or stop the intruders, the criminals have a better defense and are likely to sue the individuals, even the business owners if they were to stumble and cut themselves let alone anything else a bystander would do.

If anything we in the rural communities across the prairie provinces need what is referred to as "castling rights", akin to the same rights that texas utilizes. Any violators/trespassers that shouldn't be on said property revoke their right to breathing, if they get shot dead or diced up, brutally beaten to the point of death or near it, they have zero defense in any court at all, they can't sue, they can't try to go after the owners.
