I came back to the alpha Breakdown to find the missing easter egg! Looking at the Doom 64 retail maps, there were actions suggesting Breakdown had something more to it, but they didnt connect to anything. One of the developers remembered that a message once existed on this level with spikes and a heart. They remembered it being a love message between some of the playtesters. Surprisingly we found it exists intact in the alpha, but it is not easy or clear to get through. You can see me walking in random areas and shooting unmarked walls. It took me a while to get fast enough into the BFG area which is required, but in my defense I was using a N64 controller haha. You can see though I do get the spike message; it's hard to see though. But it says S (heart symbol) C. We do know one of the playtesters is "Sunny Chu", so perhaps that is who it is referring to, but we don't exactly know.
