BREAKING! Missing 4-Year Old Cleo Smith FOUND!!
Cleo Smith Latest / Cleo Smith News - Missing four year old Cleo Smith has been found alive 18 days (over 2 weeks) since she went missing from her family's tent in a campsite in Western Australia. Following the abduction of Cleo, police had interviewed over 100 people who were at the campsite (called Blowholes) on the night Cleo and her family arrived there on 16th October.
Police broke into a locked house in Carnavon, 75km from where she went missing at Blowholes campsite, at about 1:00 a.m. Local time on Wednesday and found Cleo Smith in one of the rooms. A man at the same location was arrested and is now in custody being questioned by detectives. WA Police Deputy Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed that Cleo was found alive and well and is now with her parents.
She was last seen in her family's tent at around 1:30 a.m. However it was 5 hours later that Cleo Smith's mother and stepfather realised she was missing.
The authorities at the time were absolutely adamant that Cleo Smith's mother, Ellie Smith and her stepfather, Jake Gliddon and her biological father were not suspects.
Throughout their investigation a $1 million reward was put up for any information leading to finding out where Cleo Smith was. As her disappearance was treated as a high red alert, roadblocks were put up in the area of her disappearance. Detectives also made numerous visits to Cleo Smith's family home in Carnarvon, obtained CCTV footage from a multitude of shops in the war and collected samples at the Blowholes campsite.
When the police did find her at the locked house, WA Police Deputy Commissioner Col Blanch explained 'One of the officers picked her up into his arms and asked her 'what's your name?' he said. 'She said: 'My name is Cleo'.
'This is the outcome we all hoped and prayed for,' Deputy Commissioner Blanch said.
'It's the outcome we've achieved because of some incredible police work.
'I want to thank Cleo's parents, the Western Australian community and the many volunteers.
'And of course, I want to thank my colleagues in the Western Australia Police Force.'
Police will provide more details on the rescue of Cleo later on Wednesday
'For now - Welcome home Cleo,' Deputy Commissioner Blanch concluded.
