0"Bubble Bobble Part 2," also known as "Bubble Bobble 2" in Japan, serves as the sequel to the original Bubble Bobble game and stands as the fourth installment in the Bubble Bobble series. Published by Taito, this game hit the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. Players embark on a mission to rescue Judy from the clutches of the Skull Brothers. These antagonists are the fragmented remnants of the Super Skel-Monsta's essence, shattered into three parts following its defeat in Rainbow Islands.
The story unfolds as Bubby and Judy enjoy a moment of relaxation near a tree, only to be rudely interrupted by the kidnapping of Judy by two Drunks under the command of the Green Skull Brother. Bubby transforms into Bub and, with Bob, embarks on a daring rescue mission.
The gameplay mechanics of "Bubble Bobble Part 2" closely resemble its predecessor, with some fresh additions. Bub and Bob (or their descendants Cubby and Rubby in the Japanese version) now possess the ability to charge their bubbles, enabling them to inflate and ascend to the top of a level β a technique referred to as the Super Bubble. Novel Special Bubbles also enter the scene: the Wind Bubble and the Snow Bubble. The Star Bubble from Parasol Stars makes a reappearance. Players will encounter new adversaries, some requiring multiple bubble shots for elimination.
A novel health system is introduced in Bubble Bobble Part 2. Bub and Bob can collect hearts to replenish their health. Exhausting hearts and getting hit results in life loss, with Continues being utilized to persist in the game. Although multiplayer does not function simultaneously, players alternate turns. Interestingly, if the game is completed with Bob, Bubby still appears in the ending.
Bubble Bobble Part 2 takes a unique approach, offering a single ending. On level 70, Bub and Bob must conquer the Green Skull Brother to free Judy. Subsequently, they engage the remaining Skull Brothers for a final confrontation. Bub's encounter with a fairy after the defeat of the Red Skull Brother's true form prompts a transformative spell that turns Bub back into Bubby. The heartwarming reunion of Judy and Bubby marks the ultimate conclusion.
