The legend returns! ... the legend of notoriously bad games, that is. But would you believe me if I told you this 3D incarnation of Bubsy is actually surprisingly good?

Although you still die in just one hit like in the original games, The Woolies Strike Back features numerous improvements. For one, you can actually see where you're going now and will no longer blindly run into enemies and hazards on a constant basis. There's also no fall damage, and thank god for that. Your glide also acts as a double-jump, which makes precise platforming much easier. Additionally, you have a brand new pounce move that allows you to attack horizontally so that you no longer have to bounce off enemies' heads. The level design is also more forgiving in general, especially since checkpoints and shirts--which either shield you or act as extra lives if you're already shielded--are strewn all over the place.

Overall, I think this is a fun oldschool platformer and probably the best Bubsy game to date. The controls are really responsive, the difficulty is just about right, the levels are chock full of collectibles and different routes to take, and the bosses are also pretty cool. The only gripes I have are that the presentation could be improved (it tends to look and sound like a mobile game) and the price ($29.99) is steep considering how short the game is.
