Welcome to Deconstruction Gaming’s Guide to Gaming Terms. In this video we will explore the term Bug. So what does Bug mean? A Bug is an error in the execution of game code.
A bug in games is a flaw in the execution of the code or logic of the game software or game engine. Bugs are considered more serious than glitches and can often lead to errors or crashing of the game. The concept of a Bug in engineering has been around since the late 1800s with the programming bug being attributed to a moth in the 1940s. As a process, game testing is used to find and eliminate Bugs before a game is released although game patches may also fix these after release. The term Debugging is associated with finding and removing these game breaking errors. Sometimes Bugs slip through and depending on how many are in a released title, a game may be described as buggy.
I hope this helps explain what Bug means in Gaming Terms.
