[バレットソウル - 弾魂 - /Bullet Soul] Version B Loop No AB 2-ALL CLEAR [Score: 605,588,430] [CC Commentary]
This game had been mocked for how far you can go just by standing still and simply use the spread shot, which signals its boring easiness, and this game has no difficulty selection. It's on its default difficulty. It's due to its single primary mechanic: when you destroy an enemy or parts, the bullets that it shot out will get cancelled and becomes harmless. Basically Espgaluda's kakusei but 24/7. That's a bad look and does deserve criticism. But it got me thinking... Why?
Scoring system.
UNMENTIONED ANYWHERE, EVEN IN THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE, the game's main point of scoring is to point blank! That's why the bullets are gone when you destroy enemies without any cost! The fact that there is no visual feedback of how much different the multiplier increase is when you destroy enemies point blank doesn't help either! The game is not supposed to be played as Espgaluda at home, which, you can, but much more boring and would help you far less for gaining EXTENDS... the game is intended to be Ketsui at home! Ketsui's main point of scoring is strategic point blanking. The chip scoring system has clear visual feedback for that. That's why CAVE employed complex scoring systems; part of it is the clear, on screen numerical visual feedback.
Those aside, it's a good game, really. I love it. The game is on the easier side, even on its 2nd loop and TLB, thankfully not bomb immune at all, but while the stage part is very easy to no miss, the bosses are pretty challenging.
In this game you can shoot, focus shot, and bomb. The usual CAVE formula. Also this game is a caravan shooter too, giving out many special bonuses like caravan boxes and such. It's a great complement to the multiplier system that has no limits, only as far as you can boost it by destroying stuff point blank. It has to be noted that you only have 3 bomb stocks available and that's the maximum. Unlike CAVE games where you can over-stock your bombs, you can't do that in Bullet Soul. I know the game is designed to be on the easier side, but I don't think this is a nice way to go... Good thing the bomb is reliable per use.
One unique thing to note when fighting bosses is breaking off parts also cancel out bullets. This makes focusing on total carnage feel very rewarding. I like it. Well, keeping the parts around is a bad idea anyway since those likely will shoot at you.
On Version B you can get more extends, which also means more bombs! Version B also has Loop. I don't know if the DPS boost is applied to other characters as well but Loop certainly wrecks the game out, quickly defeating bosses and all! Her focus shot's laser pierces through things, so it makes reaching out parts at further back very easy! Plus, the punches and her good speed is a great complement to the game's systems. Feels like Loop was designed for the devs to say "Wanna use a cheat character? Lol, here you go, kids mode." And due to the boosted DPS, the game became more ideal for a 2-Loop game, where a single loop is around 26 minutes or so. Version A's 30 minute per loop is too long for my tastes. Nope. Version B's bullet patterns are also different than Version A's, which I'd say on the fairer to no-bomb territory.
To access the TLB you need to go to the 2nd loop first. You can only enter 2nd loop by clearing the 1st loop without continues. The 2nd loop has some enemy formation changes, I think? But other than that, only bullet pattern boosts, which are pretty tricky and will give you trouble if you underestimate it.
It's a fun game worth your time if you want to sink your teeth into it. The 2-ALL is also one of the easiest to get among 2nd loop games. Try to aim for the 2-ALL!
This is the Switch port. I heard the Xbox 360 originals have both online leaderboards and replays. This is based on the PC port, where there both of them got removed. Well, that sucks.
