Burden of The Jiangshi (僵尸) (Chinese Vampire)
The Jiangshi (僵尸) is a Chinese “hopping vampire,” a reanimated corpse that absorbs qi (life force) instead of blood. Stiff from rigor mortis, it hops in Qing Dynasty robes. Emerging during the Qing era, it symbolizes fears of improper burials and unresolved death rituals. Taoist priests traditionally subdue them using charms and rituals. Popularized in Hong Kong films of the 1980s, Jiangshi blend horror and folklore.
