40The game was first released in 1982 and it was called "Attack of the mutant camels". It was most likely re-released without much changes in 1983 and renamed as "Matrix".
This is a remake of "Gridrunner" which was also made by the same person Jeff Minter of Llamasoft. He also made other camel games in which one controls a side scrolling camel and shoots with it. First one of these was released in 1983 and confusingly given the exact same title "Attack of the mutant camels". I have not played it, but I played the sequel "Revenge of the mutant camels" released in 1984.
In this video I made it to zone 11. Can't remember getting this far before.
