Cactus McCoy brings you out into an eccentric and strange version of the wild west. You've got cactus men, bazookas, rattlesnake whips, and ancient curses. Sounds like fun? It most certainly is.

Even more than amazing gameplay though, you've got great graphics and sound. The atmosphere throughout the game is extremely evocative of those old spaghetti westerns that you might have imitated as a kid. Or, wait, that was my generation. These days kids don't pretend to be cowboys, they pretend to be... anthropomorphic sponges? Little boys who fight aliens? I have no idea. But the point still stands that this is a great game.

The Emerald Temple is the penultimate level of the game, and brings you to a temple of doom type... well, -temple-. You'd hardly expect the Emerald Temple to be a condo, now would you? The level is well designed, both graphically and in terms of level design. The place is extremely well detailed (as it should be, we're nearing the last level!) and is full of little things like cactus engravings, spiky backgrounds, and other paraphernalia you'd expect from a temple dedicated to cacti. Still, despite being a temple, you won't find any peace here, as there are dozens of enemigos throughout, all armed to the teeth and after your blood. Well, chlorophyll, but you get the idea.

The enemies here are pretty tough. You'll be up against quite a few bazooka-wielding baddies, Gatling gun-toting grumpies, and katana cutting... kiddies? No, that's horrible... kultists? Nah, that's pushing it. Ok, fine, katana cutting enemies. Bah, that's boring. Still, that doesn't affect the game, and it's certainly anything but boring. Factor in the challenges, and you've got a worthy second to last level.

The first challenge would make Link proud. You have to smash all the vases in the temple, but thankfully you don't have an annoying bug following you around telling you listen. Like the luggage on the train level though, you have to be careful before dispatching the vases as you'll need some of them to reach up and get to certain areas.

The amount of time you're given to complete the level in the time challenge really shows just how big the area is. You have a whopping four minutes and thirty seconds to finish it. As always, finish the level once before trying this, as it's easy to get lost and lose precious seconds.

For this challenge, you have to first find the different idol statues in the area, and then you have to find the pedestals to place them. This can get rather difficult, as the idols and pedestals tend to be quite far apart, and with quite a few enemigos in between. The best thing to do would be to first clear out an area before going after the statues and pedestals.

Like all other, "don't die on this level" challenges, this one is really though. There aren't as many bottomless pits, but there are enough enemigos who'll gang up on you to that it's quite possible to get beaten to death. And despite being stupid advice, I'll say it anyway. The best way to do this challenge, is to not die. Hehe.

The final challenge is probably the trickiest. You have to kill three longsword wielding enemigos by bashing them in with a morningstar. The problem is, the places where you find morningstars tend to be quite far from where you find the swordsmen. Still, it's doable, and if you keep your eye out, you'll bag the challenge in no time.

Well, that's it for the Emerald Temple, onwards the! To the final level!
