0Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 features a co-op mode titled Special Ops, which consists of independent missions similar in design to the "Mile High Club" mission epilogue from Call of Duty 4. These missions take place in various locations from the campaign mode, but are not related to campaign . Most of the Special Ops missions can be played alone, but all support two-player cooperative play where two players can play together locally or online. Scenarios include a snowmobile race between two players, one player providing air support from the AC-130 with the other player carrying out operations on the ground, capturing enemy compounds, and searching the area for and eliminating 40 or more enemies at a time.
Special Ops is divided into five separate groups of missions: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo. Each mission can be played on three difficulty levels: regular, hardened, or veteran. Successful completion of missions earns the player stars, there are up to three stars available for each mission: one star for completing missions on regular difficulty, two for hardening, and three for veterans. Once enough stars are earned, the mission is locked. There are a total of 23 missions with 69 stars each available to unlock. At the end of each mission, the screen displays statistics on how long the player or players took to complete the level and how many kills were scored by each player, among other data.
