***Day 5: Oscillating Loops***
Push yourself further with this drill, the Oscillating Loops. One of the best ways to increase your consistency is to be mindful of every line on your page. Those guidelines are there for a reason. Let them guide you!

Tips for success:

Try to keep your shades on that slant line and practice keeping them spaced out evenly. Touch all areas of the guidelines – the baseline, the header, the 1st ascender line, and the 2nd ascender line. Bonus tip: Aim to create loops of equal shape and size. Think of the inside space (counter space) as a container of water – try to keep the volume of water as equal as possible.

Happy practicing!

Join me and my amazing calligrafriend, Nina, in this 7-day challenge designed to kick your creative juices into high gear. We’ll tackle those uppercase basic strokes and give you specific practice drills that you can do TODAY.

***WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW***

Details and info on my website:
http://piecescalligraphy.com/uppercase

***What is it?***
This is a 7-day challenge to help you practice the Copperplate uppercase basic strokes. For each day in the challenge, you’ll practice a specific drill that focuses on a specific stroke(s).

***When is it?***
The live challenge is July 1 – 7, 2018. Each day of the challenge, you’ll find a new YouTube video from me. Nina will be doing an Instagram Live around 4 pm PDT (she is at @anintran) and *if* the kids let me, I’ll do an Instagram Live in the evening, about 9 pm PDT.

If you start late or miss it completely, you can start anytime and go at your own pace. All videos will stay here on YouTube and on my website.

***What is the goal of the challenge?***
Before you work on uppercase LETTERS, it’s best to build a solid foundation of basic strokes. Knowing how to create them and building your muscles will better prepare you for success. Following the challenge, we’ll be joining the @handletteredABCs on Instagram in August to write our alphabet from A to Z!

***Who can participate? ***
Anyone! Whether you’re a complete beginner or more experienced, there is always something to learn. If you’re a beginner, I advise you to set smaller, bite-sized goals, such as simply showing up every day or completing the challenge the entire way through. If you’re more experienced, look for ways to fine-tune your script. Use your critical eye to analyze and improve your letterforms, spacing, and consistency.

***What materials do I need?***
--- Guidesheets. Download and print either one (or both!) of the guidesheets below. You can also download a helpful alphabet exemplar as a reference (Thanks, Nina!)
