Amid the escalating climate crisis, attention has turned towards nature-based solutions and acknowledging natural capital as a novel asset class - a promising avenue for enhancing quality of life and reconciling economic value with the deeply rooted cultural and spiritual values found within indigenous cultures. According to the World Bank, closing efficiency gaps in the use of natural capital across all countries could result in nearly doubling annual economic output from land and sequestering an additional 78 billion tonnes of carbon. How can business leaders and investors facilitate the acceptance of natural capital as an asset class, and what strategies can they employ to invest in the services it provides, foster new markets like carbon and future biodiversity credits, and build upon the regulations, governance, and scientific foundations of a nature-based economic model?
