When I initially talk to a new player interested in joining one of my Castles & Crusades campaigns I invite them for a discussion on Discord. To determine what kind of roleplaying style they prefer and set expectations. To determine if the potential new player will be a good fit for my game style and with the other players in the group.

The SIEGE concept in C&C is built on the idea uing clever play, idea's, solutions actually directly effect the outcome of the SIEGE engine. (Players Handbook chapter 8).
The CKGuide does give much more direction and examples of using the SIEGE engine to reward creative players. I tried to explain this in this video. Make the explanation simple for new players to the game. But its more than just rewarding creative play. But its the basis on how the "Skills" system works in C&C
