The pandemic has led some to call for a radical overhaul of capitalism and a reordering of our priorities. And the sight of governments spending hundreds of billions on interventions has made ideas of a universal basic income look more plausible to many. But are these changes really deliverable? And would they work for the benefit of all?

Paul Krugman is a Nobel Prize winning economist, Distinguished Professor of Economics at the Graduate Centre of the City University of New York and a columnist for The New York Times. He was awarded is Nobel Prize for his contributions to New Trade Theory and New Economic Geography. The Prize Committee cited Krugman's work explaining the patterns of international trade and the geographic distribution of economic activity, by examining the effects of economies of scale and of consumer preferences for diverse goods and services. Paul Krugman is the author of 27 books and has published over 200 scholarly articles in professional journals and edited volumes. As a commentator, he has written on economic issues including income distribution, taxation, macroeconomics and international economics. A 2011 survey of economics professors named Krugman their favourite living economist under the age of 60.
Deirdre Nansen McCloskey is the Distinguished Professor of Economics, History, English, and Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is also adjunct professor of Philosophy and Classics there, and for five years was a visiting Professor of philosophy at Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Deirdre McCloskey has been described as "a match for Thomas Piketty" by The Spectator.
Grace Blakeley is an author, columnist, journalist and economics and politics commentator. She is a staff writer for Tribune and was previously the economics commentator of the New Statesman, whilst also contributing to Novara Media. Grace Blakeley sits on the Labour Party's National Policy Forum, which is responsible for policy development. Grace identifies as a democratic socialist and supports the use of capitalist controls, opposes financial globalisation, and is critical of international and EU law.
