Captain Planet and the Planeteers Gameplay

Captain Planet, based on the tv show of the same name, is a shooter/adventure game in which the player takes on the role of the Planeteers in their vehicles in the first part of the level and the captain himself in the second.
The gameplay of the first portion is an akward Gradius-clone where the player must dodge and shoot enemies. This is made more complicated due to the player having limited ammo and mostly useless powers. For most part, Fire and Earth will do the trick leaving the rest of only specific uses such as Heart for triggering animals in parts of the level.
The second part has the player navigate Captain Planet through a mazed of toxic waste and other pollutants. The player can punched enemies or transform Captain Planet in to one of the five elements to progress. Again, the player is given a limited amount of energy that counts down that acts as both ammo and health for the player. Along the level are power-ups hidden in boxes and enemies that the player can collect to give Captain Planet more energy, an extra life or limited invincibility that is required to pass through certain parts of the level.
