Armed with the right cables this time, I made another go at capturing video with a cheap USB device. It worked out a lot better this time around.

Computer: Pentium III 800, ASUS P2B-F, 512 MB PC100 SDRAM, GeForce 6200 AGP, Yamaha YMF724

Video capturing was done via an S-Video cable, which can be used directly with the GF 6200. PAL-I (625 lines, 50 Hz) was used, which is probably the reason there's some stutter with frame rates. My notebook did the actual recording with VirtualDub at 5 Mbps using XviD/MPEG4 and a deinterlace filter. I'll need to mess around with settings to improve the visual quality further, but I consider this a good first 'real' result.

Audio capture was done separately on my Linux machine, using command line recording tools. It was captured at 72,000 Hz with 16-bit samples. A direct speaker out to line in connection was used. Doom was set to play General MIDI music through the YMF724's wavetable, with the legacy sound block in SB Pro mode for the sampled sounds.

And yes, I am very rusty at these old games.
