Release date: 28 Oct 2020, as reckoned by the calendars of Man.

(I was offered (and accepted) a key from the publisher.)

The name of a development company need not inspire confidence, however here it is somewhat prophetic that it is named "Unfinished Games". While everything is there mechanically, there is not much polish. I will not address the artstyle; it has chosen an SVGA aesthetic which is perfectly functional. The game has sound and possibly music, as well. The menus offer limited configuration but, given the limited gameplay, it fits. The only performance option you're given is whether to set VSYNC to +1 or 0.

A particular feature of note is UI scaling independently of the render resolution. As someone with eyes that have seen too much, I appreciated the ability to make things larger. (Also included is a Field-of-View slider.)

Gameplay itself is based on protected a box with which you share a health pool. Your environment is the titular three-dimensional castle which seems to be suspended in mid-air. Given the difficulty of accessing such a place, it is obvious why contractors never built in a floor in most of the building.

You will be under assault from all sides by a variety (three or maybe four) of enemies: a spell caster, an arrow caster, a sword swinger, and I think a differently colored sword swinger. Rather than be content to let sleeping monsters lay, magicks were brought to bear just to teleport people into your castle in the sky. Safety was not a concern, as occasionally NPCs will fall to their death.

To combat the influx of uninvited guests, you have two varieties of projectile attacks: a spreadshot attack and a focused shot attack. You are also able to grab those who infringe on a 6-foot gap and fling them to a more appropriate distance away from you.

All of your abilities are powered by juice contained in golden cups, and healing only comes from red hearts in red cups. Attempted to collect any sort of juice is simply met with failure. I think this is likely due to the monster just having its nails painted, and is waiting for them to dry. Juice drinking is done, instead, by the chest, which can be carried about and then set down so that you can resume combat.

You will also be fighting with the controls. The controls are rather loose and imprecise. Also, there is no "invert mouse" option (an egregious slight upon the dignity of both man and beast) which makes the game incredibly difficult for me. (Over decades of gaming, I've never gotten used to first-person games that translate "slide the mouse forward" to "look up".) Consequently, my score on the leaderboard is abyssmal, even during the pre-release era.

On release, the publisher, Feardemic, is asking five American dollars with a 10% discount during the first few days of sale.

However, I do not recommend you purchase this game on release. I will allow for the possibility that some refinements (especially to the controls, as well as inclusion of "invert mouse") might happen in the future, in which case the game may warrant another look.

On the whole, the game's phylactory mechanic is quite interesting, but I don't think this game does it justice.
