Celeste - First Steps (Orchestral Re-Imagining)
I started this arrangement planning to eventually perform in on saxophones and accordion. I wrote out the original parts for 3 soprano saxes, 3 altos, and an accordion. When that was finished I thought about expanding it a tad to include bass voices and marimba which I though fit the tone. So I added two bass voices which optimistically would have been bari sax and bass clarinet, but with some of the rhythms in the arrangement I was uneasy about giving those parts to players lest I incur their wrath.
Meanwhile I also thought the arrangement would be cool with strings, so I started orchestrating it with VSTs (Spitfire Chamber Strings and Studio Woodwinds). At first I didn't think it was going to work but then I started liking it more and more. So that makes this my first orchestral arrangement where I orchestrated something retroactively rather than writing the parts after having decided on the full instrumentation ahead of time which is what I usually do. Anyways enough of this rambling. Regarding the style of this arrangement - would a fan of First Steps enjoy this arrangement? Who knows, I just made it because it was fun.
