Change Screen Refresh Rate of Display in Windows 10 [Tutorial].

Refresh rate refers to the number of times per second an image refreshes on the screen — in a process measured in Hertz (Hz). The higher the refresh rate, the better the experience, while lower refresh rate usually results on screen flickering, and it can cause eye strain and headaches.

Typically, a refresh rate of 60Hz is good enough for everyday computing tasks. You'll notice some jitters while moving the mouse on the screen, but it's an optimal rate. If you drop below 60Hz, that's when you'll start experiencing problems.

If you're a gamer, things are a bit different. Although 60Hz should provide a good experience, using a higher screen refresh rate of 144Hz or even 240Hz will offer a much better and smoother gaming experience.

Depending on the monitor, resolution, and graphics card you're using, on Windows 10, it's possible to adjust the refresh rate manually for a sharper and smoother viewing experience.

When looking for a new monitor, one of the things you’ll want to consider is the screen refresh rate. Generally speaking, the higher the refresh rate the better for your viewing.

The refresh rate is the number of times the monitor refreshes its image per second. The refresh rate is measured with Hertz frequency. A monitor with a 60 Hertz refresh rate means the image on the screen will refresh 60 times per second. As it stands today, 60 Hertz is the minimum people want for computer monitors and TVs. Anything below that and you might start to notice problems. Too few hertz and you may be able to see the screen flickering which not only is less enjoyable for your viewing but can also result in more eye strain.

If you’re a gamer, you may want to exceed that number far to help make the gaming experience seem much smoother. It isn’t uncommon, for example, for gamers to have screen refresh rates as high as 240 Hertz. When you’re not gaming, you may want to drop the refresh rate down again since it isn’t necessary.

Not all computer monitors will allow you to change the refresh rate. If you don’t see the option to change refresh rates, it is not a problem with the Windows operating system but rather the monitor. You buy monitors with the refresh rates already built in.

The following tutorial demonstrates how to change the screen refresh rate of a display when you’re using a version of the Windows 10 operating system.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).
