Chasm: The Rift. I'd been wanting to showcase this game since I started this show. It's one of those obscure 90's FPS games that I do so love. Even though this one is, like many, not all that good. It's not terrible... at least, it wasn't until the last level today, but we'll get to that. Despite the looks of the game, thanks to using blocky polygonal characters, and the "raw sewage" brown, dirty color scheme, this engine is actually closer to Doom's - or may even Wolfenstein 3D, than it is to Quake. 2.5D, and most things seem aligned to a grid. Though it did have one advantage, you could shoot the limbs and heads off enemies. The bosses are also more puzzle based than bullet sponges. And that's not bad in concept, except that the second boss level is just horribly done, with extreme environmental damage all over. And even killing the boss doesn't mean you've won. Then you have to manage to get out before the entire area just insta-gibs you. Not at all fun.

As a note, I am having to run the game at low-res to get it to run at all, using DOSBOX. But at least I've gotten the game to work! -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
