Chep Swim Technique Video
Swim technique video for Chep, a member of Team Zoot.
Here's a rundown of the major topics I cover:
1. Head positioning. Avoid lifting the head back which results in a dip in your body positioning. It's better to try and "stretch your chin forward" to put your head in a better position rather than lift your head.
2. Distance per stroke. Chep seems to place her hands near her head and then push them far under the water prior to pulling, which dramatically reduces the distance she can travel per stroke. Also, this makes a lot of drag by continuously pushing water forward as she completes her stroke recovery under the water. By practicing on land and in the water using the fingertip drag drill, the idea is to reach "up" each stroke above the water, then placing the hands in to start the pull.
3. Continuously applying pressure during the entire pull. The idea is to apply moderate pressure to the entirety of your arms during the full pull, rather than quickly pressing down at certain parts of the stroke. Be sure to engage your biceps and triceps to create the best arm positioning under the body. I show ways to work on this on dry land, but ultimately it will take a lot of work and slow progression to get everything aligned right under the water, but focusing on dryland will help a lot.
This is a video I do for free for Team Zoot members, but anyone is welcome to send me footage of themselves swimming. I do this as a free service, but donations are always welcome. DM/email me for details. I am a member of the Team Zoot affiliate team. Learn more at www.zootsports.com .
