This is a rearrangement of this piece I made last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q08iT2bIAIE&list=PLbmdRE6FEEAhkRoWfmFzThccDNbFAOJfQ&index=3

I've named it 'Chest of Antique Toys' for no better reason than it feels right. The picture is of a musty attic, for the same reason.

I'm currently in the stage of my music-making journey where I have the drive to learn more interesting music theory, but then feel the need to immediately put to use what I've learned- which does not necessarily make the resultant music better. It faces me with the risk of sounding 'overdesigned' for its own sake, until I develop the musical maturity to know when simplicity is best.

This piece is the first time that my consciously utilizing more theory has actually helped me instead of hindered me. As a practice exercise, I set myself a few conditions to meet, like using a less common mode (phrygian), not sticking so closely to four/eight bar phrases, and modulating to other keys a couple times. Writing the piece to meet these goals came more naturally this time, instead of feeling like I was needing to shoehorn anything.
