Christopher Nolan revisited: Insomnia (2002) Movie Stories
There are spoilers for Insomnia. It can be argued that Insomnia is the first significant example of adapted Scandinavian noir for American audiences. certainly for the 2000s. Much like his first shorter work. Forgotten. Insomnia risks living up to that name in the cinematic annals of Christopher Nolan. What is most striking about Insomnia is that it lacks the same innovative visual style as his later work. eh even preceded the structural ingenuity of Memento in another way. Nolan isnt writing the screenplay but is adapting the 1997 Norwegian drama of the same name that falls to Hillary Seitz. You can say. Nolan recognized this when he spoke about what might seem like an unusual cast. I thought of Robin: well. hes an extraordinary guy to work with and he really did what I think was a flawless performance. I watched the film hundreds of times while we were editing it and never got to the point in the performance where you start to see the acting.
