Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a cooperative action and first—person shooter computer game developed by the Swedish studio Fatshark.
The game takes place in the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000; the characters of the game are citizens of the Imperium, fighting heretics and creatures of Chaos in the dungeons of the hive city Tertium on the planet Atom Prime. Most of the game's events take place in the dungeons deep under the Tertium.
The script for the game was written by writer Dan Abnett. The plot of the game begins with an episode on the prison transport "Tancred Prime", transporting prisoners to the planet Atom Prime. Suddenly, the ship is attacked by followers of the chaos god Nurgle. The player, acting as one of the prisoners, rescues explicator Zola, and together they leave the ship. In exchange for salvation, Zola offers the prisoner to replace his death sentence with service among the same "volunteers" under the Inquisition investigating the appearance of heretics and chaos demons on the planet. From its ship Mourning Star, which has become an operational deployment base in orbit of Atom Prime, the Inquisition lands cleanup squads in separate sectors of Tertium with various tasks to detect and destroy the most striking manifestations of chaos.
In terms of gameplay, Dark tide resembles other cooperative games in the spirit of Left 4 Dead and the previously released Fatshark Vermintide dilogy: a group of four players must, acting together, move through the game level and repel periodic attacks by waves of enemies controlled by the computer.
