Recap: Serge and Kid pass through Fossil Valley on their way to the Port Town of Termina, picking up a mysterious heavy skull along the way who is looking for the lost memories of his past life. They also run into Solt and Peppor again, who wish for a rematch and fight the party again. The dragoons beat a hasty retreat after being defeated.

At the entrance to Termina, Serge and Kid overhear that Karsh was sent down south by Lord Viper to hunt a ghost. The town is preparing for a festival, but the singer Nikki has gone missing. A man named Guile has a bet with a fortune teller that he can bring an item back from the supposedly-impregnable Viper Manor within a week. Korcha, a demi-human from Guldove, owns the fastest boat in town and claims he can go anywhere with it. Glenn, a young member of the Acacia Dragoons, places flowers on his brother Dario's grave.

Piecing together a plan to break into Viper Manor, Kid proposes that Guile come along with them on Korcha's boat, acting as a guide to help him navigate. Guile agrees and joins the party. Finding a poorly-defended route along the coast, they manage to sneak in, and wait until nightfall to begin exploring the manor.
