4CrossCode tiene lugar en un entorno de ciencia ficción futurista, donde los ciudadanos de un mundo juegan a un juego MMO (multijugador masivo en línea) llamado CrossWorlds, el juego (con sus avatares) tiene lugar en la luna que está en el mismo lugar físico que el mundo en el que viven. En CrossCode, los jugadores juegan como Lea, que es una muda, se encuentra atrapada dentro de CrossWorlds, sin recuerdos del pasado o de su partida anterior de CrossWorlds. Alli se encuentra con un programador llamado Sergey, con él que se propone recuperar sus recuerdos jugando a través de la historia y las misiones de CrossWorlds, mientras Sergey introduce a la codificación de nuevas frases para ella durante el juego.
