After Tess got bitten by an infected and sacrificed herself to give Joel and Ellie enough time to escape from the Boston military, the unlikely duo is left on their own devices. Still grieving over the death of his daughter Sarah, Joel is as curmudgeonly as possible even if Ellie is nothing but amazing. Since the Firefly drop-off was a bust, Joel decides to take Ellie to a former friend who apparently can get them a functioning car. But first, they have to get through an empty town full of traps and infected, only to find Joel's friend Bill, who is just as curmudgeonly as Joel, leading to fun banter between him and Ellie. Bill can help but to get to the car, they need to get through a whole lotta infected.
