hey guys, it's Wartorious here. so classic wow is set to be released on August 27 (technically August 26 if you're in the Americas) - so this is getting really close now!
So the three biggest choices you will have to make are Horde or Alliance, though you've probably already decided. Which server to play on, and what class your main should be.
I've been looking at a lot of graphs showing what class people are going to be playing in #ClassicWoW, and I wanted to explain why being a druid is probably the most enjoyable class in the game.
This video explores why you should consider choosing #Druid as your main. Please like and subscribe for more content like this in the future!
I played a druid all through classic. It's an incredibly fun class ideally suited to creative people who like to mix things up. In the early game druids start out as nature casters, at level 10 you get bear form which significantly improves your ability to take damage like a warrior, and you gain cat form at level 20 allowing you to stealth like a rogue.
So Druids aren't always the highest ranked individually, but they make up for it in sheer versatility.
Now unlike the retail game today, in a group, druids can play almost any role within a group. Although warriors are arguably the best tanks in the end game, druid bears make very good off-tanks, controlling adds and can be the main tanks in groups whilst levelling, though a druid may have to work harder to hold aggro. Swipe, Challenging Roar and growl can help hold aggro, and casting regrowth and rejuvenation before combat can also help increase threat generation, Druids can pull a single target with faery fire which is incredibly useful.
Dire bear form, at level 40 gives you a +360% increase to armour, so getting rings, trinkets and weapons with armour is a great idea. It's also possible to get druid bears with higher HP than warriors later too.
Druids are also very effective healers and off-healers - though not quite as good as priests. Healing over time with regrowth and rejuvenate can make a priests job much easier ironing out damage spikes.
Druids are also proficient in DPS in cat form. Cat form can be a lot of fun in PVP for taking out unsuspecting targets and finishing off enemies. When wow classic first starts I'd avoid being balance, but after a few patches come out the damage of balance druids will rise sharply as oomkins (out of mana boomkins) become boomkins (high damage moonkins).
In PVP druids obviously, have mark of the wild and thorns that improves allies defence and can help you gain an ally. When the game starts there's not going to be battlegrounds and there will be a lot of PVP. Cat formβs prowl will be incredibly useful in avoiding enemy players, especially groups and getting past annoying mobs. Watch out for hunters though because they have an ability to detect stealthed units.
Druids are the only class with a battle res, which can actually prevent a wipe if a priest is revived. Druids also learn innervate at level 40 which is loved by priests in long raid battles because it can replenish mana in battle. Never leave home without a druid.
at level 30 druids gain travel form giving a 40% speed boost. To put that in context a standard mount gives 60% speed boost at level 40 and an elite mount gives a 100% speed boost. Druids in cat form also have a talent for +30 speed and bears have a talent for the feral charge ability, similar to a warriors charge. Druids also get the [Aquatic Form] giving +50% speed in the water. Druids can use entangling roots to drown enemy players, but remember the undead don't need air, and this is kind of cheap.
In PVP druids strength is in its versatility. You can adapt your approach depending on who you're attacking.
Druids have a rival class, and that's Paladins. Pally's, like druids, can heal, have high armour and work in a similar way. Pally's are extra annoying because they can bubble. Pally's are alliance exclusive so you will probably meet them in duels.
Druids are extremely effective against mages, shapeshifting means mages freezes can be countered, you can charge and stun them with bash in bear form, I believe mages need to be aimed at you to cast, so going ballistic in speedy cat form can throw them off. If a made uses ice block, you could possibly heal or cast rejuvenation, get creative.
Druids are good against other druids, you can cast hibernate on bear form making them sleep for 20 seconds, which is so much fun. #warcraft
