Researching & equipping augments is an often missed, some may say secret, way of buffing your Perks ( Jugger-Nog, Stamin-Up, Speed Cola, etc), your gun (thru ammo mods) & your Field-Upgrade (Energy Mine, Healing Aura, etc).

How long the research time takes depends on how long you play in-game, and if you complete the research for a major or minor Augment, the game will automatically start researching the next one for that Perk, Ammo or Field-Upgrade.

It's important to understand how Augments work because you'll want to check out the research & see which upgrades suit your play-style, and therefore which ones you'll be aiming to unlock & equip first.
