Before Guilty Gear, Arc System Works developed Code Name: Viper. This NES title may be a Rolling Thunder clone, but it features a number of improvements that are worth noting. Upon review, this is one of my favorite NES games. A propulsive, technical side-scrolling shooter that pounces on you, without being overwhelmingly unfair or punishing (coughcoughBattletoadscougcough).

Passwords are available after stage 3, and you are given 3 continues that return you to the most recently passed checkpoint.
