Cold War & Warzone are Merging in December! New Leaks about Cold War & Warzone!
10Activision’s Art Lead posted the info on ResetEra, a popular gaming forum, when asked about how the overall game will shift with the integration to the new title.
In the forum, someone commented asking how the engine shift will occur and what impact would it have on the game. Fans have been waiting for news on what to expect, as Modern Warfare’s engine is quite different in how it feels compared to Black Ops Cold War.
The Art Lead ‘ShutterMunster’, who is a verified poster on the forum as “Art Lead @ Activision”, says, “There will not be an engine shift for WZ.”
This means that Warzone will remain on Infinity Ward’s new engine, while Black Ops Cold War MP experience will be on Treyarch’s engine. What this means for next-gen features and support is yet to be announced.
Activision revealed during the company’s investor call on October 29 that Warzone’s integration with Black Ops Cold War will take place in December. December will see Black Ops Cold War’s first season of content as well.
“And starting with first season of in-game content in December, Black Ops Cold War will be integrated into Warzone,” said Activision Blizzard President & Chief Operating Officer Daniel Alegre. “We’ll bring Black Ops Cold War characters and weaponry into the free to play experience, along with substantial new content ensuring that Warzone remains both the terrific experience and a powerful on-ramp for the franchise’s premium content.“
Warzone and Black Ops Cold War will become integrated across progression, Battle Pass, and store content in December, when the game shifts away from Modern Warfare.
In addition, it was revealed that both Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare loadouts and Operators will remain useable in Warzone, even after the shift. Players will be able to pick between Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare loadouts when dropping into Warzone in December.
“Now players can of course continue to use their Modern Warfare content in Warzone once Black Ops launches,” said Activision President Rob Kostich. “And as a result, one cool feature players will see is that they’ll be able to choose either their Black Ops loadout or their Modern Warfare loadout in Warzone for their gameplay. And this is just one example of how Warzone’s gonna expand and evolve overtime.”
