This was a cover impacted by the human malware known as COVID-19. I had a full production music video planned back in February, but it's been infinitely delayed. So, a music video is in the works, but don't hold your breath for it to be released any time soon. Since Fire Force is now a thing, again, I figured it was a good opportunity to release this monster cover of a monster opening to a pretty dope series.
Now in preparation for the vocals, I immediately realized that I don't have Masato's range (dude regularly hits a C#5, whereas I can only hit a B4 on a good day). So, I made the decision to transpose this entire song down 2 whole steps. This put a logistical challenge for the other instruments since now the guitars and basses have to be tuned to Drop F# (the original was tuned to Drop A#, which is one of my preferred tunings), and finding the appropriate strings and tone for it. But the end result, at least to me, is a darker, meaner take on the song. The other major challenge was figuring out how to cover not one, but TWO vocalists, as this song features Ryo from Crystal Lake (also a really good metalcore band). The two screaming styles were radically different, with Masato preferring the fry, and Ryo preferring a roar/growl-ish technique. I figured I couldn't replicate either, so I sang it how I would fry/growl/roar at their respective parts.
This cover also got a "GGD-ing" from it's original incarnation, due to the time gained from the pandemic.
