The final mission is a slog, the enemy will mount scripted assaults using transports and spawn cruisers going for your base.
On top of that there are destroyers and cruisers in almost every body of water on the map making progress slow and difficult, I was not willing to waste too many units on suicide runs so the mission took longer than it would have otherwise.
