Command &Conquer Tiberian Sun was the third game of the iconic C&C RTS franchise. Released in 1999, The once Westwood head honcho Louis Castle stated in a recent interview that this was a time of major advances in computer technology and capability. This enabled the franchise to move from the then outdated 2D worlds of C&C Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert, into the more advanced 3D map setup. This also enabled Tiberian Sun to utilise greater terrain capability, including craters, cliffs and raised areas, which could affect unit movement and hamper unit weapon operation. The game advanced the story of the "Tiberium world" C&C games, taking place years after the first tiberium war of the original game. With everyone believing that Kane, the terrorist leader of the Brotherhood of Nod, is long dead and no longer a threat, GDI is stunned to find out that this is not the case. Kane and Nod begin to resurface and play havoc with the world once more. With Tiberium now beginning to reshape the land, Kane discovers upon a crashed Alien Vessel, on board which is a device which is believed by legend to foretell a less than desirable fate of the earth. With information from the device, Kane sets an unknown plan into action, and as you would expect, GDI are tasked with stopping him. Led by General Solomon (Played by the legendary James Earl Jones) from GDI's space station Philadelphia, and by commander Mcneil down on the ground, GDI seek to foil Kanes plans at every turn once again. The result is the 2nd Tiberium war. Can GDI emerge victorious again? As you may expect, the weapon technology has significantly advanced. Awaiting your control are armoured walkers, hover tanks, burrowing APCs and flame tanks, jumpjet troops and explosive disc throwers to name but a few. Giving you a whole new scope of tactical possibilities.
in later years the hardcore capable fanbase community began to restore abandoned animations inexplicably left out of the game's OE release, and also release patches available for download. Several custom clients were also made which contained this restored material, and a thriving online community of players still play the game to this very day.
