In this video I am comparing 3 spectral sampling methods against each other in a spectral renderer:
1. Naive: 1 sample uniformly distributed over the spectrum per frame.
2. Spectral Multiple Importance Sampling: taking 3 samples drawn individually from 3 color matching functions of the CIE RGB 2006 color space and then weighting them together by their contribution in the distribution with balance heuristic.
3. Hero Wavelength Spectral Sampling: taking 1 sample uniformly distributed over the spectrum and then generating 3 more equidistantly placed (with toroidal shift) samples around the chosen one, making 4 samples per frame total.
