Concerning ModDrop: Why Elianora Just Hid All of Her Mods
560CLARIFICATION UPDATES:
- About an hour after this episode was set to upload, Elianora posted the following to the Reddit thread linked here:
"I will unhide them once I am satisfied with the community's perception of ModDrop and once enough awareness has been raised."
- The reason for ModDrop's removal from the Nexus was their refusal to make their app open-source, a requirement for all mod management software uploaded to the Nexus.
- I have learned that the ModDrop team consists of just two people: Skylar Kreisher, the company president, and one other person. One of them represents the company under the username, MODScientist on Reddit.
- A curious note: Upon close inspection, as of this episode, one can find and download several mods from the ModDrop app that were originally uploaded to the Nexus with explicit instructions not to make them available elsewhere. At the absolute least, this means that the ModDrop team are doing a dangerously poor job of curating the content made available through their service.
- One last note: The ModDrop representative, MODScientist, claims that ModDrop have never profited from their service, despite also claiming to work on it as a full-time endeavor. One wonders what's paying their rent, all things considered.
