Throughout this course, we’ve talked a lot about internal rigging kits or bash kits if you’re from the caving community. Right now, we’re going to break down what that is.

When we talk about a bash kit, we’re generally talking about a small pack; something that’s easily carried in between the legs if someone’s climbing up and down ladders or on the back if the space allows for it. We’re not talking about large rigging bags in this case. These kits are going in with the RECCE team, the recon team, or with the internal rigging team.

300 feet of rope with both ends out. In our example, we’re running a 9mm Technora sheathed rope (which provides a little bit more abrasion protection) that’s split (not cut) and separated by a divider in the bag. This gives us 150 feet of rope on each side. The exact amount of rope you have needs to be mission specific; you’ll need to consider the given space that you’re in and determine whether or not that length of rope will allow you to successfully vertically or horizontally the patient.
