Contra: Spirit of War Redux | The Blue Hornet Must be Eliminated! [PC Fangame - v1.5.1]
11Contra: Spirit of War Redux is a fan-made masterpiece from Digital Warrior. Orders are to put an end to the private military company "Blue Hornet" and their evil alien subordinates through 12 stages, and you'll be fighting a boss by the end of each one.
Although it is a PC game, it retains an 8-bit art style, some graphics are borrowed from other 16-bit games like Contra: Hard Corps, Contra III: The Alien Wars, Contra ReBirth (Wii)... It also contains sprites from totally different retro games, the result is what I can consider one of the best Contra game I've ever played.
At the start, Bill and Lance are available, each comes in 2 versions (normal and Redux), offering either a slide or double jump ability, new playable characters are unlocked by beating the game (along with a boss rush mode).
The difficulty is okay, but it spikes during the last 3 stages, so make sure you get the upgraded Spread Gun (S), it's the best weapon IMO, but there's a LOT others to choose from, some are secret, and upgrading makes them really OP.
✔️ The game does not offer a controller support, but this can be circumvented by using a keyboard to gamepad input emulator like JoyToKey.
