Trapped in the Zed Zone, where a catastrophic event caused an unknown infection to turn humans into aggressive zombies 🧟, even some animals mutated into horrible abominations. And as if that weren't enough, mysterious mechs have been seen roaming this desolate land, extinguishing any glimmer of hope.

Unlike Zero Sievert 💛, which shares many similarities with ZZ, you start a session by generating a map with customizable settings, you can select the infected density, weapon scarcity, size, and so on.

At the beginning you can select one of few proposed basic weapons, and that will be it, there is no safe zone or shelter, since zombies can enter even the merchant camp if you're not careful enough.

Survival in this game is very relying on weapon type, condition, ammunition, and luck! You need also to keep a low profile and generate the minimum noise, otherwise you can expect to be jumped by a pack of infected 💯.

Zed Zone pushes you to keep moving from place to place in search of loot and better gear and weapons, unlocking and upgrading skills requires harvesting zombie organs to craft the appropriate vials, so unless you found a vehicle in good condition, with enough gas, it would be better not to invest into building a shelter early game.

🛑 Despite its qualities, Zed Zone suffers from some flaws, here is what I've noticed:

👉 The game wants you to use melee weapons (a whole branch of the skill tree)
But I don't want to, I prefer a shotgun blast to the face, okay?

👉 With a car, bulldozer your way through anything!
Literally anything... Doesn't matter if it's a 12-pack of zombies or that breaker monstrosity, just smash into anything that moves and it will break down, even locked safes!

👉 Everything gradually loses health in this game
Canned food expires (but takes long time), cooked takes 3 days, guns break fast and melee weapons even faster, vehicles feel like they have v12 engines and you need to keep a constant watch on your thirst and hunger meter.

👉 Being overencumbered is not a big problem
Yep, carrying any extra weight will increase the hunger meter by 0.1, which is okay because food isn't scarce and you'll have to eat after sleeping anyway.

👉 A gameplay heavily relying on RNG
Don't get me wrong here, I love procedurally generated games but sometimes you get ambushed by let's say a fanblade and unless you have a really heavy machinegun, it's the end, the game only offers a quicksave, so if you unfortunately save near one of those, it's a run killer.

👉 Some traits are not yet implemented?
When you create a new character, you have a choice to pick traits that can give a bonus or a penalty (they are opposite of each other), here I want to mention traits regarding reading books, sanity and chatting with people, well I haven't found a single book during various sessions (maybe bad luck?), the mood seems to be always neutral and the only person I've met on the map (the merchant) has nothing to say.
