These 2 CPUs belong to 2 completely different families and are based on very different architectures and being released in a very different time period, they shouldn't really be comparable.
But, they both represent the entry level CPUs of their respective lineups, and since there always was a lot of talk about the awful performance of AMD CPUs from the first half of 2010s, it does seem like something that would make sense to do, if nothing else, to at least save someone from getting a really bad product.
